So, I have some great news! I found an online edition of our textbook.... so we can continue where we left of. I hope you guys are excited about this as much as I am. The following link will take to Chapter 5. Before Spring Break, we read sect. 2. Today, you will read sect. 3. This will be about Alexander the Great. I have another surprise, I took a picture of the worksheet. Like with yesterday's assignment you can just write the answers in an email, and do not forget to write the assignment name is the subject. This will be due on Wednesday. Tomorrow I will have one more short reading with a few questions on Alexander the Great then I have an idea of an activity. I know that this is not the same as being in class and I am sure Mr. Devito is very lonely right about now. However, we will get through this and history will stay remain to be AWESOME SAUCE!

We are going to stay with our Mr. Alexander the Great for today. The following sheet is like the one's you did on Monday. As things are rapidly changing during this time this assignment and all others going forward will be due on Monday. But to help you from becoming overwhelmed, I would suggest that you complete them as soon as possible. If you are emailing from an account that is under someone else's name, please put your name in the subject area along with the name of the assignment. Thank you!

Wow! We are finishing our first week on online schooling (round of individual applause). We are going to take a quick step back in the book to the reading after section 1. I am including the link again. Right after section 1 is the story of Icarus and Daedalus. This is life lesson story, listening to your parents or elders. I wanted to go back to this because the activity that I have planned for next week will be about morals, as in fables. There are some questions after the story, I want you to answer those. Again, great job guys for your first week of online!

Here we go with week 2 of online school! I sure do miss you guys and the classroom. But, we must carry on and keep trying our best.
Last week, we finished with the story of Icarus. Like many parents today, his father tried to prepare him and trust that Icarus would take his wise advice. However, like some kids today, he threw caution to the wind (or sun, in this case) and decided not to listen to his father. Icarus used his own free will and it did not go well for him. Free will was a topic the Greeks often discussed. Was it the gods and goddesses that chose a persons fate? Or, was it the person's actions that caused their fate? Or in this story, was it that the gods spoke through his father and Icarus ignored them?
This story leads up to this weeks activity. We are going to write a fable, like Aesop's fables. When I do this in class, I give you a story board like when we did the comic for Spartan and Athenian women. But, since it is different this time you will just write me a fable set in modern day. Fables have a moral- Don't judge a book by it's cover or you should always be kind. The first link below is a slide presentation on elements of a fable. The last slide is useful while you are writing because it has all the parts you need. These stories are short and typically use animals as the characters. The second link is the actual Aesop's fables. I want you to read at least 5 of them to get a sense of how they are written. The third link are fables set in today's world written by other kids. Read as many as you like. Then, you will write your own.
You can take from what is going on right now and make a fable instead of the regular morals like not judging others or bullying. These could be taking care of neighbors, thinking of others, sharing and not hoarding, With this being said, I do not want to read 40 fables about TOILET PAPER HOARDING. Use your imaginations.
This assignment is for the week, so don't panic. After you write your own fable, the moral goes on the bottom of your story. I want you to be creative and have fun with this. If you are stuck on an idea and can't figure out what the moral will be or any other issue, please email me and I will help you. In the normal setting, I read the class each other's fable and then you guys try to guess the moral. This time, I will collect the fables from the class and put them in a word document and then you can read everyone's. HAVE FUN WITH THIS!

And on we go with week 3 of online schooling! I enjoyed reading all of your fables, I hope you all enjoyed creating and writing them! I need to figure out how I can gather them all together so you can read each others. This week, you will be reading sect. 4 of chapter 5. Greek culture is going to spread because of Alexander the Great, the empire is connected and they are speaking a common language. Remember, if it is FALSE you need to make it TRUE.
I am thinking of alternating between reading a section and doing the guided reading sheet one week and then some sort of project the next week.

Hey Guys! So, we finished chapter 5 on Greek culture. You will not be taking the test, you got lucky!! This is a brutal test because of all the people. Before we move on, though, I have some activities about their religion and also about Knossos. There will be two different fact sheets and then 3 activity sheets. Remember, you have the whole week to work on these.

As much fun as the Greeks were, it is time to move on. Our next chapter is Ancient India!! This civilization was very advanced. We also get two major world religions from India- Hinduism (the oldest religion) and Buddhism (Lisa Simpson is a Buddhist). It is also a short chapter, just 3 sections. Indian history is a little similar to Greek history. Remember how Herodotus was putting the gods and goddesses and other mythology into their history? It is like that with Ancient Indian history as well. In some of their histories, you will have a prince fighting alongside a god. Hinduism is polytheistic (many gods) just like the Ancient Greek religion.
This week, you will read sect. 1 of chapter 6 from the link below and then complete the guided reading.

We are nearing the end to the school year! The week of May 11th is the final week for new work, that will be due on the 18th. Any late work will have to be in by the 21st. So, we are going to finish up with Ancient India this week, since there are only 2 sections left. Religion played a major part in creating the culture of Ancient India. Hinduism and Buddhism both spread to other Asian cultures (yes, India is in Asia) and impacted the development of those cultures as well. The empires during this time were just as powerful as some of the other empires that we have already learned about.
Here is the link again for this chapter and the guided readings. The second one is true/false. Please remember to make it true if it is false.

Wow, just 2 more weeks of work to go! Remember, May 21st is the final day for any late work.
We finished Ancient India last week and we are not going to start a new chapter. Usually, we would have finished at Ancient China. But, the world went strange so we could not get to it. Instead, I have a few readings on India for this week and next week. On the document below, you will just need to read the information and not worry about the little instruction box on the bottom right. You do not need to highlight or underline anything. You will answer the questions on the sheet after the reading. There will be 2 readings and they are pretty short. Basically, it is just a little more information on what you read in the chapter.

Well, what a strange first year we had together! Hopefully, next year will be more normal. I had a great time with you guys, and we went through quite a bit of history together. This is the last week for new work with May 21st being the last day for any late assignments.
We will just finish up with a few sheets on Ancient India like last week. I tried to get the sheets to not be so blurry, so if they are just try the best that you can. Also, I might have put up the file last week that included these readings before I split them. So, if you have already done these then you are all good.
I hope you all have a great summer and see you next year!
